Custom Guitars and StarPower / SPG Guitars;
I hope everyone is enjoying the summer and
playing their guitars...
It's been a while since we've
sent out an email newsletter but we feel
that it is time to share with you what's
been happening in our neck of the woods.
Just a brief little explanation to where we
started to where we are now...
Back in the late 80's, Eric Brown started
building custom guitars out of his local
shop in Central Maine for guitar players in
the area. You can read more and watch a

Eric's overwhelming success
and sought after expertise positions him as
one of the exclusive Master Luthiers left in
the business.
Jump forward 20 years later to late Fall
2005 ... StarPower Guitars was established
as a brand name guitar reseller and importer
of OEM guitars for many known guitar
companies in the United States. It wasn't
until a year later that StarPower Guitars
established their own line of guitars and
guitar kits for sale to the public.
It was the fall of 2007 when
Rick Welch of
StarPower Guitars and Eric of Maine
Custom Built Guitars met at a Guitar Show in
Portland, Maine and the two decided to
partner and make a custom shop line of
guitars under the name of SPG Guitars. This
venture started off with great success as
hundreds of guitars were made and sold under
the SPG brand.
In 2008, StarPower Guitars
along with the naming rights of SPG, was
sold to a guitar company in New Hampshire as
Eric and Rick put their efforts into
establishing a newly formed guitar venture,
New England Custom Guitars. This would be
the birth of a new company offering handmade
custom crafted guitars with exclusive
materials and products home grown and
constructed in our own backyard.
A year later, as the industry
down-turn, Rick was given the opportunity to
buy back StarPower / SPG Guitars for an
undisclosed amount. So as fate may have it,
we were back to where we started. However,
we wanted to get across that New England Custom
Guitars primary focus is custom built
guitars made solely in Maine, USA and StarPower / SPG Guitars products are import
products and guitar kits exclusively.
So as of present day, Summer
of 2010, we are happy to offer some
incredible guitar offerings, we hope you
